When in doubt, go back to the foundation.

It is truly the end of the summer in the northern hemisphere where I spend most of my time.

Perhaps not in the traditional sense: I keep waiting for the temperatures to drop, for some reprieve from this heat that by all accounts is the new normal. It hasn’t arrived yet.

But it is certainly the end of the summer in so many other ways: the academic year starts, parliaments and congresses go back in session, businesses launch whatever new products or initiatives. In short, rebirth, relaunch, regeneration of forward movement.

This year, it is also the first such relaunch of forward movement without most of the restrictions that came with the pandemic. When my daughter moves back into college this week, she doesn’t have to show a negative test to be allowed into the dorm. And my autumn is fast filling up with the work trips that used to be a routine part of my life. Always in movement.

I know from the feelings even just writing this out causes in my body that I am not reconciled to this shift. And contrary to other years, I am not quite sure how to get there.

So I am going to follow the process yoga has taught me to trust: when in doubt, go back to foundations, ground yourself, and see what arises from that.

If you want to join me on this journey, all my classes in September will have some focus on foundations, grounding, and stability. One breath at a time, we move into the future together, at the speed of one minute a minute.

See you soon?
