In comes the surf.
Yesterday was one of those days. I had set the day off entirely for going to art exhibits and just being quiet with other people’s creativity, and I ended up spending 6 hours working on this website.
And I had a blast!
The main driver was an idea to run a couple of workshops, countering all the ways in which surfing and climbing use the body asymmetrically. I am starting with surfing, and will run the series twice for good measure. (You don’t have to be a surfer to want to work on your core, hips, shoulders, and balance). Watch this space later in the year for specific climbing workshops.
What struck me this morning was that while I had been sitting a good chunk of the day at my desk, I still got the creativity I had craved. But because the day did not match what I had planned, it took me a good many hours to relax into it. All morning, I would keep looking at my watch, giving myself “just another 30 minutes” and then I would “start my day.”
Until suddenly, around midday, I took a deep breath and realized I was enjoying myself. Go figure.
Kandinsky can wait: I am making my own art. And meanwhile, there is surfing.
