Actions and reactions
I love autumn. The crispness of the air. The clear skies. The relief of the evening cool. The ability to sleep with my actual duvet without getting too hot (hello old friend!).
(I am not a pumpkin latte fan, but if that’s you, don’t worry, we can still be friends. Just don’t bring it near me).
This morning, I was wondering if I would love autumn as much without a hot summer. Or if I would love the austerity of winter quite so much without the abundance of autumn. Or if I would delight in the delicately translucent budding trees of spring without the grey and dark of winter. Or … (you get the point).
The reality is that most things in life are actions, reactions, and that brief, fleeting moment of balance.
I like knowing this. It helps me be aware of the many ways I can generate some of these actions and reactions myself. Pushing into the yoga mat deliberately, to feel lift and lightness in plank and the warrior poses. Grounding my feet and lifting the crown of my head to feel length in Tadasana. Having deep relaxation follow efforting and release.
This month, as we are moving through reflections on stability and groundedness in my online yoga classes, awareness of action and reaction is high on my list to pass on.
Most balance is elusive. Awareness, however, can last a long, long time.
